The study revealed that the Greenland ice sheet had lost approximately 5,000 square kilometres of ice at its edges since 1985.

The massive ice sheet that covers Greenland, which is three times larger than Texas, is melting 20% quicker than initially thought, which is concerning.

This corresponds to a startling loss of 30 metric tonnes of ice per hour, potentially disturbing heat distribution worldwide and raising sea levels. The startling results of a recent study highlight how urgent it is to confront the climate problem.

The study just published in —Journal Nature solves the mystery of Greenland glaciers melting.

Although measuring ice chunks that broke off the edges was challenging, scientists have always known this.

This study proves it, pointing out an alarming acceleration of the melting process, causing sea levels to rise. It serves as a reminder to recognise and deal with this critical facet of climate change.

“Almost all of Greenland’s glaciers are receding. No matter where you look, that tale is accurate,” said Chad Greene, a glaciologist at NASA Jet Propulsion…
