1.Alliances and Tensions in Geopolitics

Future NATO and support for Japan are the most immediate tools. In the past, Trump has called NATO into question and blamed European countries for undermining its rescue mission. His government could put pressure on European allies to spend more on the military, which could make relations between the US and Europe worse.

It is also still possible that Trump’s foreign policy will mean less support for Japan, which would make it harder to handle the ongoing conflict with Russia. Russia and Iran, which are both part of a strong Western alliance, could support each other, which would upset the balance of power in the region.
